Baharband

A Karabakh game: at a gallop the rider throws down his things and then picks them up again.

About

Baharbend is a mounted game that belongs to Karabakh and its surroundings; it is held mainly at the spring festival. It shows quickness, agility and skill in riding.

At a gallop the rider takes off the things he is wearing — cap, sword, belt, dagger, coat — one by one and throws them down at set places. Then he turns the horse quickly and, still galloping, picks the things up from the ground in turn and puts them on again. The game is named after the plains ringed by forest, called bend, where it was held in Karabakh.
