Kyzbörü

The wedding form of kokboru: the bride rides off with the kid and the groom's side chases her.

About

Kyzboru (kız-börü, kolbörü) is the mounted form of kokboru held at weddings. Turkish writing on the history of sport describes it so: the bride takes the slaughtered kid and rides off, the groom and the other young men chase her, and the bride tries not to give the kid up. As O. Palabıyık writes after İ. Sarı, the game was most often arranged to show that the bride rode well, could defend herself and was strong.

The Kazakhs also have another game of the same name — qyz böri. As Q. Slyambek describes it, on summer days the girls gather in one place as the "sheep", two or three young men guard them as "shepherds", and the other young men are the "wolves" who try to catch a girl and lead her away. This game is played on foot.
