Taz suzush

A Kyrgyz amusement of the memorial feast: bald men ran at each other and knocked foreheads.

About

Taz süzüsh is one of the amusement games of the Kyrgyz past; the name literally means "the butting of the bald". In her classification of Kyrgyz games M. Jusupova places it in the group of "games and amusements that express social inequality", in one line with töö chechmey, atala bash and öpkö chapmay (after Kyrgyzdar, vol. 1, 1991, p. 532).

That is, taz süzüsh was not a contest of training for war but an amusement that reflected the inequality of the old society. No detailed account of how the game was played has been found in the sources that open.

The game itself is described in one sentence by the ethnographer F. A. Fielstrup, who recorded the ritual life of the Kyrgyz at the beginning of the 20th century: during the ash, the memorial feast, bald men took a run and knocked their foreheads together. K. Ağgün too gives it as a game played among men without hair. The rules, the number of players and the prize are not given in the sources.
